The jQuery prepend() method inserts specified content at the beginning of the selected elements.

Syntax

$(selector).prepend(htmlString); // or $(selector).prepend(func);

Parameter Values

ValueExplanation
contentSpecifies the content to insert at the beginning of each element in the set of matched elements.
Possible values:
  • HTML string
  • DOM element
  • Text node
  • Array of elements and text nodes
  • jQuery object
func(index, htmlString)Specifies a function that returns the content to insert at the beginning of each element in the set of matched elements.
Parameter Values:
  • index - Receives the index position of the element in the set. Optional.
  • htmlString - Receives the old HTML value. Optional.
